Considering cloud? New extended cloud trial licenses now available

Hi all,

Over the past two years we’ve seen Server to Cloud migrations increase exponentially as we release new cloud platform features and our customers adopt a more cloud-centric infrastructure. As such, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make Server to Cloud assessment and migration easier for our customers.

Extended cloud trials for Jira and Confluence

We’re excited to announce that starting today, we’re offering all Server and Data Center customers an extended cloud trial to help them to explore, assess, and migrate to the cloud over time – at no cost. Extended cloud trials provide free and full access to an equivalent Jira and/or Confluence Cloud product for a minimum of 60 days, or the remaining maintenance duration – whichever is longer.

Extended cloud trials also match the existing user tier (up to 5,000), and let customers freely switch between Standard and Premium cloud plans to see which fits their business best.

Why customers are migrating to the cloud

Customers migrate to the cloud for a variety of reasons, but increased flexibility, easier project access, and lower overhead costs help make sure you’re getting the most out of your teams. Based on a recent survey, Atlassian customers are moving to the cloud for:

  1. Increased speed: Teams are able to get set up faster, and quickly scale new instances or shut down old ones in minutes.

  2. Improved productivity: Manual upgrades on nights and weekends become a thing of the past, and teams are able to dedicate their time and resources to their customers, rather than maintaining tools.

  3. Reduced administrative costs: Physical hardware, maintenance, and other hidden administration fees can be costly. Organizations save money with lower infrastructure costs, reduced liability, and better disaster recovery by moving to the cloud.

  4. Scale with confidence: Customers can safeguard their data with Atlassian’s compliance certifications, built-in data security controls, and encryption in transit and at rest.

  5. Future-proof teams: Teams get instant access to the latest features, product improvements, and integrations with other leading cloud systems, and can access projects from anywhere, on any device, with a rich mobile experience.

Ultimately, customers are choosing cloud because it allows them to focus on their core business and mission. If you’re interested in learning more about our cloud platform, check out the Trust Center and cloud platform roadmap.

Do you have any plans to require marketplace vendors to match this evaluation period?

We have JIRA Software Server and Confluence Server, but no JIRA Service Desk Server.

If we go for it, would the Extended Cloud Trial also cover JIRA Service Desk Cloud for the length of our current active maintenance?

@pcondal The extended cloud trial is a 1:1 match to your existing licenses, so it's only available for the Jira and Confluence products you already own. However, you can always start a free 7 day trial for Jira Service Desk Cloud (and extend it by 30 days if needed).

I'd recommend heading to https://my.atlassian.com and starting with Jira for your extended cloud trial. You can then start an extended trial for Confluence Cloud, and a regular trial for Jira Service Desk Cloud if you decide to make the switch.

Or head to atlassian.com/get-cloud to learn more.

@Boris Berenberg - Atlas Authority no planned requirement, however some vendors have requested to opt-in. Check out AMKTHELP-18444 if you're interested.

@Miles B.  - you say "extended cloud trials are matched to your existing maintenance period". Our remaining maintenance period is 20 months. So would the trial be for 20 months or is 12 months the limit, as stated here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/extended-cloud-trials-for-server-and-data-center-customers-976761001.html

@Katharina M. your trial would be for 20 months, but our expectation is that (hopefully) your migration won't take that long. We can also credit back any unused maintenance to your new cloud license after you move, so you don't need to wait until your Server license expires to switch.
