Building a Thriving Atlassian Consulting Business: Part 15

Tackling Imposter Syndrome

Finally, I want to talk about a feeling that can sometimes stand in the way of success. It’s a term called “imposter syndrome” and it’s defined as doubting your abilities or feeling like a fraud. I have this feeling from time to time. Sometimes I question my skills, talents, or accomplishments. I fear that I won’t live up to my own high expectations or match the reputation I’ve built in the community. When I’m feeling this, I remind myself of this quote.

“Most days I still feel like I often don’t know what I’m doing.  I’ve felt that way for 15 years and I’ve since learned that feeling is called ‘imposter syndrome’.”

Source: Mike Cannon-Brookes, Atlassian Co-CEO

The author of the quote is Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian. In 2017, Mike gave a TED Talk sharing to harness imposter syndrome feelings in your personal and professional life. Knowing that this successful entrepreneur has had similar feelings sure makes me feel better when I’m doubting myself. I encourage you to listen to his 15-minute talk.
