Hey all,
I am trying to set up approvals for a Jira Work Management workflow like is shown in the Work Management introduction video (see attached image).
I am very confused as there are some explanations on how to do it, but none of them seem to work. The " Add approval" box that is referred to often for instance does not exist.
Is it possible to set up approvals as is shown in the marketing video? And if so, is there a guide that explains how to do it?
Thanks.
~ Merijn
The Approvals feature is now available in JWM for
Jira Work Management Cloud Premium licenses
Jira Service Management Cloud Premium and Enterprise license
Jira Software Cloud Premium and Enterprise licenses
You can learn how to set it up for your project at https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/what-are-approvals/
A simple and important answer to this can be found here:
https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/set-up-approvals-for-your-project/
"Approvals are not available for company-managed projects currently."
I'd like to use them as well and I await their arrival in company-managed projects.

Hi @BG Pantaleon @Burak Hancerli @Constantine Kuks[CSOC]
probably this article will be beneficial moving forward.
Cheers,

Still no proper response for this discrepancy...
Why is it featured in the video about work management and yet it is not there?

Hi @Merijn
As an alternative, you can try to use the Approval Step in the add-on Business Process Manager. Here, you can select a group of users to get the simultaneous approval of all members of the group. Or select multiple groups and/or individual users for consistent approval.
You can get approval steps for each step of your process (business process, SOP).
Also, you can add a rule that change issue status after all chosen Approvals have been made decision (Approve/Reject). But you can also make an approval without changing the status of the task.
It's developed by my team, so ask me if you have any questions.
Best regards
Julia

Thanks for you answer Julia. However, I am looking to get the built in approval functionality working. Anyone that has a guide on how to set that up?

Hi @Merijn
I am also so confused with that functionality. For me this is a critical point. I also was not able with built in functionality setup approval process. I am not sure if it exist generally. Can somebody confirm that? Thanks.

I haven't found a nice way to implement this in the end.
I ended up making approval steps in the workflow that one specific person is allowed to transition through.
For steps that require approvals from multiple stakeholders this means that that one person has to align this with the other approvers outside of the platform, which is far from ideal.
I still find it strange that this approval feature is shown in the marketing video but not available in the product.

Thanks @Merijn for the reply. I am doing now a little bit similar workaround as well. I have to provide approval from multiply stakeholders. That's why I am using now small automation for that. When Request will be created, jira automation feature creates some sub tickets and only after closing sub tickets (approvals) we can close main request.
P.S. I am disappointed with marketing promo and amount of information which Atlassian provides.

Seems like approvals only work for Service Desk projects.

You are right. Approvals works in Service Desk. It looks a little bit different and it is Service Desk. I am evaluating business projects right now. I confused with Promo video and description regarding Jira Work Management product. I cannot believe that this feature mentioned in description but missing in the product.
Thanks

@yauhenvatsiakou same here. I've spent around 2 hours finding out how to add the approval process to HR workflow with no chance.
Seems like ad content should be updated.
