You may set the Default Assignee to Project Lead, ensuring you are the Project Lead.

You can do so differently depending on the UI your are currently using:

  • New Jira experience (Cloud): Project Settings >Details
  • Previous UI or Server: Project Settings > Users and Roles > Set Project defaults (or something like that; it is a link on the top-right corner)

Hi Ken,

There're 2 approaches to achieve this use case:

  1. JIRA Administration >> System >> Allow unassigned issues:
When turned ON, the default assignee for the project is Unassigned. When turned OFF, issues must always be assigned to someone - by default, the assignee will be the Project Lead as defined for each project. Default: ON
  2. Define default assignee for a component -- Managing components

Regards,

Kelly

I have recorded a video that shows to do Auto Assign, in case someone enjoys video format: https://youtu.be/9hWJYfPHO84

Hello Ken,

it can also be done using post function on the "Create Issue" transition added to your active workflow.

JIRA Administration >> Issues >> Workflows:

Edit your active workflow, click on "Create Issue" transition and add "Update Issue Field" post function, select Issue field "Assignee" and fill your username.

From now on should every newly created issue automatically be assigned to the username you put in that postfunction.
