agile board configure columns

is there a way to save a default set of columns for use on any agile board?

we have lots of statuses and it seems we must place those in the proper column each time we create a new board.

No, there's no way to have a default set of columns, we recommend having a board that you consider the 'base' board then copying it when you create new boards.
