Workflow Jira

Jonathan Bloquet December 18, 2023

Hello,

In the current workflow, Jira suggests the following workflow: Epic/User Story/Task/Sub-task.

I would like to add a Feature level to have: Epic/Feature/User Story/Task/Sub-task. How should I go about creating this new level?

Thank you,

Jonathan

Hello @Jonathan Bloquet

Where did you find that recommendation? Can you provide a link to that document?

The issue hierarchy in Jira is

Epic
|-- standard level issue type; Story, Task, Bug, etc.
|-- subtask level issue types

Jira does not natively support the recommendation you saw: Epic/User Story/Task/Sub-task

If you had the Premium paid subscription you could build upwards above Epic to create a structure like

Feature
|-- Epic
|-- standard level issue type; Story, Task, Bug, etc.
|-- subtask level issue types

But the Premium subscription doesn't support adding levels below the built in Epic in a manner that Jira would natively recognize a parent/child relationship between the issue types.

You could use generic Issue Linking to specify relationships between issues and call them "parent/child", but Jira will not apply any parent/child related functionality to those.

You might be able to find a third party app that would allow you to insert the issue hierarchy levels that you want. You can search the Atlassian Marketplace for keywords like "portfolio management" and "project management" and "Issue Hierarchy" to find such apps.
