I have recently started using the 'Last Comment' field in the time in status report. I am using it on a custom dashboard to see the last update and agreed next actions.
However of my list of 10 issues, only two have updated and display the comment. I cannot see any thing different when going into the JIRA. I am wondered if this was a update timing issue, but other fields such as ''Status' have updated with out issue.

when you say time in status report, what view are you referring to? Is this a native view in Jira, or something provided by a particular Marketplace app?
