Why doesn't the Wiki Renderer style drop-down include a {code} option?

Not sure if I'm missing something... On our JIRA Software Server (v8.9.1), we're using the Wiki Renderer which supports a bunch of tags in text mode. As described in the built-in documentation:

http://my-jira-server/secure/WikiRendererHelpAction.jspa?section=texteffects

As developers, we regularly use the {code} markup to render snippets of code. But the visual editor doesn't include an option for this. We're forced to manually add these tags.

I checked the docs and configuration options but cannot see any way to change the style options available. Does anyone know of a way to resolve this?
