Why does my new Epic not have a reference number?

I tried to create a new Epic from the Portfolio page and while it is there it only has a reference of the project abbreviation; there's no reference number after them. I was expecting "XX-0000 Epic name" to match the others already in existence but instead I have "XX Epic name". The "XX" element is still a link to the epic.

I'm assuming something not great is liable to happen if I create another as it'll presumably have the same linked reference as this one.

For info, also created a new initiative and the same thing happened there too.

Further info - it does not appear in the drop-down to associate to a new issue.

Did you commit your changes from Portfolio to Jira? See Committing plan changes (Atlassian documentation).
