Why can't I type comments directly into the input box?

When I am working on a JIRA ticket, I often want to create comments.

I have permission to do this, but the form often seems to malfunction.

No sooner do I type something, but it disappears.

As a workaround, I can type something into Notepad and then cut and paste it, but this is terribly inconvienent.

Hi Brian, welcome to the Community. That sure seems odd as stated. Is this reproducible? If so please share more info. It may be that you will have to work with Atlassian Support if reproducible as they can log in and observe.

I've been able to reproduce that issue for several months, even changing employers.

It is an intermittent issue, but I've noticed it with drastically increasing frequency.

How can I bring this to the attention of support?

I try to report a bug and I only get options to explore the community and to view documentation.

I have never experienced this TBH. You mention changing employers, does this mean you are seeing on different instances of Jira? If so, have you tried different browsers? If you are seeing on multiple browsers please report to Atlassian Support.

Hi Brian/Jack, I'm having the same issue on Chrome Browser.  I click "add comment" and then start typing, but my comments are not entered, and my keystrokes are interpreted as keyboard shortcuts.

Both employers are hosted on different domains.

I don't know enough about JIRA implementation details to answer how truly separate they are.

My instinct here is that there may be something wrong in your browser.  Two Atlassian sites showing the same problem to you (but not to other people) suggests the problem is client-side, rather than server.

I know I have problems with Atlassian sites regularly, but when it's not something my colleagues are also finding, I take the blame because my main browser is piled high with privacy and security measures and it's almost always one of them.

Whatever the cause though, it's always worth reporting.  Before trying to report it, I would try another browser, one with no add-ons ideally.  (My web usage is probably 74% firefox, and 25% chrome based.  I tend to keep a totally plugin-free, OS installed, Safari on all my computers, just so I can yell "standard off-the-shelf browser" at any support people who try the "it's your browser" line.

On your last point, the free and $10 licences are not entitled to "full" support, and get directed to the community.  We do try to help, but we're not really a support team.  But we do try, and whilst I've not run into your problem myself, I do know there are people reading this that have.
