Dear Community,
we are running a Jira Software 7.1.7 and are quite happy with it.
The database is setup as Microsoft SQL 2008 R2. We are now planning on migrating to another database or updating to MS SQL 2016.
Has anyone helpful advice?
Thanks
Peter
Hey @PeterN
There are 2 methods one is you can rely on the native DB backup/restore and other one is JIRA XML backup/restore.
We can migrate to another DB, so you have to setup new MS SQL 2016 DB as mentioned here https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/connecting-jira-applications-to-sql-server-2016-948232141.html
Before connecting jira to new MS SQL 2016 DB you should take full XML backup and then connect new DB to jira which should again install as new jira then once you are inside restore the XML. that should do it.
Please take a look at this link which mentions about switching DB for jira https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/switching-databases-938846867.html
I would recommend to do a test before doing on production.
Regards,
Vishwas
MS SQL 2016 is officially not supported for Jira 7.1, please check out this supported platforms doc for 7.1 https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/connecting-jira-applications-to-sql-server-2016-948232141.html.
MS SQL 2016 is officially supported in Jira 7.9 and later.
