Special characters aren't converting in the editor

While creating an issue I would usually copy it from a Word document and apply special characters to turn some text either to Bold and/or Italic. 

It works in the classic project editor but not in the next-gen project editor.

For example - "Testing for tomorrow" - I would type it as *Testing for tomorrow* so that it converts into Italic type.
