Restricting a field to a specific user group

Hi,

I want to restrict a custom field say "Planned version" only to be filled by managers. I tried this method in this article https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/restrict-field-editing-to-specific-user-1189510558.html

It did work as expected but only caveat is the field planned version shows in view screen only when filled.

Is that the expected behavior in this method?

Is there any other method to achieve this?

Hello @Bharathi Ranganathan have you looked at the layout for the screen to see if the field is in the Hide When Empty section?
