What determines the fields which appear in the formatting options of the release notes? Can you add to this list of fields?
By trial-and-error, I found that my field list was based off my default issue types - Create issue operation.
This was extremely frustrating to find... Thank you so much!
We have been fighting this for months, and finally found this answer- the field we are expecting to show weren't part of the Create Issue screen, but once I added it there, it appeared.
This presents another problem...
By requiring any "Release Notes" fields to exist on the Create Issue screen seems absurd-
Release Notes would hardly ever be defined at the moment of an issue's creation, so fields used to generate Release Notes shouldn't be restricted to only those fields visible on the Create Issue Screen.
Can someone from Atlassian explain why this is, or comment on how to mitigate this?
I want to use this feature, but I definitely don't want Issue Creators to have any visibility or control over the Release Notes field when they are submitting issues.

I agree with you, I also needed to display a field that won't make sense to add in the create screen. The workaround I am suggesting to my team is to create the release notes in Confluence so that they can add any fields missing in this list. Found that workaround here

@Jason Berry Did you manage to add fields to the list of options in 'formatting options'? I have the same problem
