Question about epic link soon being replaced with parent

Anjan Mujanovic

Hi all,

We have received a notification about epic link soon being replaced with parent.

See image:

EpicLinkParent.png

Can someone please help with the following questions regarding this update:

  • How to prepare for this change?
  • What is the impact of this if nothing is done in preparation?
  • Is there any documentation for this change in specific? (I am having a hard time finding it)

My apologies for these most likely rookie questions, as I am still getting used to the Atlassian products.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Best regards,
Anjan

You can't do it.

See https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CLOUD-6999 for the request to enable it.

Some people claim some measure of success with effectively proxying and rewriting it, so when you land on xyz.org, it simply asks xyz.atlassian.net for the data and passes input back to it.

But this is horribly complex if you want to do it properly because you have to dynamically hack every response from xyz.atlassian.net to change the url, and even when you do that, there are places you cannot, with the effects that

  • Dashboards and reports continue to fail
  • SSL errors can and will happen
  • The users will still end up using xyz.atlassian.net because there's no way to catch all possible uses, and there's no way to change the urls in emails, reports or linking.

Hi @Boris Kristo,

You can always use your domain with Server versions.

As far as I'm aware, unfortunately, it's impossible now.

According to this article:

Atlassian Cloud vs. Server: Features and use cases

  • Custom domain name(s) - Atlassian provides cloud subscribers with a secure, authenticated domain name. Your cloud site is available at https://<domain_name>.atlassian.net, where <domain_name> is a unique word that you specify when signing up for Atlassian Cloud. Note: Choose wisely, because your cloud domain name cannot be changed after your cloud site is created.

Seems like there's nothing could be done about it, sorry.
