Query for all issues in Epic, where Epic meets conditions

Meg Hahn May 4, 2021

I'm trying to create a query for all issues in a set of Epics, where the epics either contain specific text in the name, or are in a specific status. Either the text or the status option will work to get all the write epics, I don't need both. Is it possible to write this query?

Hello @Meg Hahn

I don't think it is possible to create this type of query without a third party app. Some third party apps provide jql extensions that let you incorporate sub queries that would allow you to do something like

"Epic Link" in (<jql for the Epic conditions>)

but that sort of functionality is not available natively.

I reviewed the Advanced Search Reference pages and did not find anything to support this.

If apps are an option you could search the Marketplace for something like "jql extensions" and it should show you some options.

Thanks for checking Trudy - bummer it's not possible without an extension but glad to confirm I'm not missing something! I'll check out Marketplace
