Hi There,
We are working on a product which has multiple modules and each module is like a project in itself.
We were been using JIRA for sometime now by having multiple projects (separate projects for each module) and different boards (under each project) having separate backlog's for each project/ board and running parallel sprints, generate reports separately for each project/ board.
But now I wanted to run 1 project for the entire product with multiple boards for each module under the same project but to have separate Backlog for each board, run parallel sprints under each board and generate reports separately for each board under the same project. Is this workable ??.
Please guide me. Looking forward for your queries ASAP.
Thanks,
Sathish
Hello,
Issues for boards are configured by filters. You define the filter in the board configuration. You need to define a filter for each board. The most important thing is that same issue does not have to be present on two or more boards. Because if you change such an issue, it will be changed on all boards, where the issue is present.
You can setup parallel sprints. You can find more info here:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/using-parallel-sprints-797737030.html
@Sathish Kumar you need to create multiple boards with a filter, which would choose issues for the required module. You will have a backlog for each board. You will be able to build reports for each board.

Got it Alex, Will try it out. Thanks for the solution.

@Alexey Matveev with parallel sprints, is it possible to start/ complete sprint for the different teams in different time frames?
We are thinking about splitting our scrum team as the team has grown, but we would like to mantain the same product backlog. I can get the different boards for the different teams, but till now if I work in the sprint I couldn't find a way to split that. Is this possible with the parallel sprints?

@Elena I just found this article that helped me: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/How-to-manage-multiple-teams-in-one-project/qaq-p/1159807
I created a new component for each team and created separate kanban boards for each team. The filter for the board looks like this
There is a single backlog in the WEB project we still pull from, but when the time comes to assign it to a team, we add the component "Stormtroopers". This puts the ticket in a duplicate backlog for the team under the new board. When the issue is pulled into an active sprint, the new team board shows all tickets in the Stormtroopers team.
There is still a "master" board that has all issues regardless of what team its on.
We're going to try this out this week and see how it goes. But I hope this helps your situation 😊

@Elliott Beetz I appreciate you time the time to reply !! thank you so much.
I will look into that post.
However, to me it seems creating the boards that way means overcomplicating the process, it would be just easier separated boards, but I understand for the Product Owner is easier to have one Product Backlog to look at.
I will share the experience if I manage to figure out, thanks again, Elliott!

Hi Sathish,
You realistically wouldn't actually need to run this under one project. If this is something that you absolutely need to do, you'd have to bulk move the issues to one global project.
Otherwise, you mention that you want to have all of the boards to run separately with parallel, separate sprints and separate reports, as Alexey mentioned, you'd simply need to create a series of boards with filters that are certain to not have any issues cross over across more than one board. You can create as many boards as you want under a project, each with their own backlog.

Got it Eric, Thanks for the clarification. Will try for it and get back to you.
Appreciate your response.

Hi Satish,
An add-on we purchased is called User Story Mapping by Easy Agile. It has worked really well for us. It gives a good view of your epics and associated stories and tasks. We are using the Server version so you might have to check if it is available in the Cloud version as well if that is what you are using.
Best of luck,
Bill

@Sathish KumarWhat you are asking for is do-able please go ahead :)
but remember you need to activate parallel sprint.
Best!

Hey Alex,
Thanks for your reply. I've enabled the parallel sprint option earlier and there won't be same issues in these board. Again, I wanted to know if I can run 1 project for the entire product with multiple boards for each module under the same project but to have separate Backlog for each board, run parallel sprints under each board and generate reports separately for each board under the same project.
Does JIRA allows such option ??, rather creating multiple projects and running sprints separately.
