Yes, I have done that several times.
Just create a board (or copy an existing board) and then create a new filter for that board that references the JSD project.
The only drawback is that you cannot link the board to a Location for a JSD project. It has to be linked to a classic project. So I have a generic classic project called JSD Default and I use that as the location.
Yes,you can add tickets from a service Desk Project to a kanban board but you still need a software license to work with the board.
