HI Experts,
We have been using JIRA software version 7.2 since last 3 years. As this version has approached its end of support, we want to upgrade our JIRA server to latest version available in market.
Requesting you to please provide your support completing this up gradation task.
Queries:,
what are the steps to complete this activity ?
our JIRA server is running on centos, will it be compatible for latest version of JIRA
Since the upgradation will impact the live server, how much time required for downtime ?
which location is required to back up ?
Incase any discrepancy happens how to revert all the steps back ?
Please share if any documents are available.
Thanks

Hi Sanat,
upgrading is a complex task which needs good preparation - luckily there is good documentation available which helps you to do the needed preparation such as testing and the upgrade later on. Please check here.
How much downtime is needed depends, mostly, on how long it takes to rebuild the Lucene Index. In case you have a test environment (which is a good idea) that is more or less same from specifications like the production environment you can get a rough estimate from there on how long it will take to re-index.
Backup of the Jira installation directory as well as the Jira HOME directory is always crucial - not just during upgrades.
A rollback is described here good preparation should avoid the need of having to roll-back, though.
Please also kindly check Upgrade Matrix to see what you can expect from new versions.
Cheers,
Daniel
