The Issue Status Categories are To Do, In Progress, and Done. If several statuses are configured in each category, is there a way to filter by Category?
Can this be done if you are using JQL and want to see all issues in the "In Progress" Status Category?
The alternative is to add in status (status1, status2, etc.), which means you have to know all the statuses that have been set to the In Progress category.

yes, you can do this sort of thing:
statusCategory = "In Progress", which will return all the blue status'd tickets. regardless of what the word being used as the status is.
