Is there a Simple Timesheets option for Projects in Jira Software?

Jira Software has multiple Apps to track time if that time is entered on every task or epic; however, we want to keep things simple by allowing our users to enter their time into a standard timesheet each month and to select how many days or hours they spent on each project they are involved in or meetings, or other activities so that we could ultimately roll up that time per project and calculate the cost.

We do not like the item of asking each team member to log time on each and every task to track this way. Are there any apps that anyone would recommend that would help us to report at the project level and allow users to enter the time maybe just once a month?

Hi @Kristine Gemici

You can try out our add-on to get the time entered by the users.

Worklogs Time Reports

The app provides the following features.

  • Worklogs Report :
    • Create reports for time entered by your team members
    • Filter/Categorize/Group By your worklogs data
  • Timesheets : View/Enter time spent for multiple issues and multiple days from a single screen
  • Dashboard gadgets

Disclaimer : I work for the vendor who built this app

Thanks so much Rahul! It looks like this still kind of requires time entered per task, story, or EPIC... I am thinking that our main solution will be to add an EPIC per project that is just dedicated to time if management decides that we do not want to add time per each and every task. Greatly appreciate your followup and suggestion on this!

Hi Kristine,

All timesheet apps I know lets you to log work on issue level. I'm not aware of one that allows logging work to projects. Here is a workaround solution for you. I will explain it for our app, WorklogPRO but it may be applicable to other apps as well.

Using the "Issues" configuration option of WorklogPRO, setup an issue for each project. And mark each one as "Always displayed on timesheet". You can set the summary and issue type according to your needs.

After that, when a user opens their monthly timesheet they will automatically see a line for each issue (each project) on the timesheet and they can directly log their work on this issue.

When generating a timesheet report, instead of Issue grouping, you can use project and user grouping and see how many hours each user worked for each project.

Deniz, hello!! This is very helpful information ! I was kind of assuming that the last option would be to have a single line item (EPIC) within each project dedicated to just the time entries. We would just add that EPIC to each project and title it something like "Project Name - Timesheet Entry" and then tie in each of those EPICs when running the timesheet reports.

Greatly appreciate the help in brainstorming on this!
