I have already created tasks in Jira and would now like to import sub-tasks. Is it possible to do this, given that I don't know the parent id of the existing tasks?

No.

Sub-tasks have to have a parent. If you don't know the parent, you can't create them because you can't specify the parent.

And from what I've been able to read online, there is no way to determine or assign a parent id for a story after the story has already been created. Is that correct?
