How to block the transition of Bug from dev in progress to Dev done if root cause is empty

I have to check if the Root cause field (Added as a descriptive field) is empty when the issue is moved from the development in progress status to development done status.

If it is empty that transition should be blocked.

Hi @Hareesh and welcome to the community,

You have to add a Field Required Validator (Field must not be empty during the transition) to your transition from Development to In progress:

  • GO to your project > project settings
  • Workflows > Click on the pencil icon of the workflow you want to edit
  • Find the transition from Development to In progress and click it
  • Click Validators
  • Click Add Validator
  • Choose Field Required Validator

  • Choose Root Cause
  • Click Save
  • Click publish workflow
  • Test your workflow

@Alex Koxaras _Relational_ : Thank you for your response. But I am unable to find the Validator option on when I select the transition. Is it because I don't have Administrator access?

@Hareesh

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will display at the bottom of the navigation panel on the left when you are viewing the project.

Alex's solution applies to Company Managed projects.

If you are working with a Team Managed project then you need to add a Rule to the workflow transition, and choose the Restrict to when a field is a specific value rule.

@Trudy Claspill : I am working with Team managed project. But I fixed this issue with the transition rule. Thanks for the support. But I need one more check here, that is validating the Original estimate if it is null. But original estimate field is not available in the drop down list. How can I do that? I created a separate post for the same.

@Hareesh unfortunately this is not possible on TMP since original estimate is not available on the dropdown menu.
