How do i create an attribute called "Component" in a project under Jira

I would like to create an Attribute/Option for "Component" in a project under Jira

What type of project is it? 

You have to be a Project Administrator to be able to add a new Component to the list in a Company-managed (Classic Software) project.

The problem is that I don't even see an option/Attribute for Components in this new next Gen project

Components are not currently available for Team-managed projects. You can vote for the feature request and follow it here:

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

The method for creating custom fields differs depending on the type of project you are wanting to modify.

There is not a Components field (like the one in Company Managed projects) built in to Team Managed projects. You'll have to create a custom field for that. The closest match among the available field types is Labels if you want to allow multiple values, or Dropdown if you want to allow just one value.
