How do I upgreade a license on a system that cannot connect to the internet?

We purchased a license but I got an error trying to enter the new license.  I looked at the log file and it appears that the error came from not being able to connect to the Atlassian server.

Activation of licenses for Jira do not require access to the internet to reach an Atlassian site in order to complete.   There are analytics for most installs that might try to reach Atlassian sites, but these are not required to use our products, and are not involved in the activation process.  I suspect that is what you are seeing in the logs.  That or attempts by the UPM (plugin manager) to reach an Atlassian domain.

  1. What version of Jira do you currently have? (before upgrade attempt)
  2. What error do you see in Jira when trying to apply this license?
  3. In your https://my.atlassian.com site, what kind of license for Jira did you create/purchase? (ie Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Jira Core, Jira Data Center)

When I have seen this fail on air-gapped machines, it tends to be because the license key was not just copied/pasted from https://my.atlassian.com but instead someone typed in each character.   For such a long string of characters, I really don't recommend that method because it is very easy to make a single mistake that will cause Jira to reject the input.
