Does using Epics between multiple projects affects their tied User Stories' Sprints/Velocity?

aokeeffe@guidewire.com February 24, 2021

Hi Team,

We have a need to use the same Epic across 2 different teams' projects...

Both teams will have separate User Stories tied to that Epic, however they may be scheduled across different Sprints.

Now, if we do use the same single Epic for those 2 projects, will it have ANY impact on Sprint completion/velocity report?

For example, will Team A not be able to Complete Sprint 1, because Team B has a user story tied to the same Epic but scheduled for Sprint 2?

And if it is possible, will this have any negative impact on Team A velocity report?

Thank you!

Agata

Hi aokeeffe@guidewire.com ,

Epics are not part of the Sprint, their Stories are : this will not have any impact on the sprint velocity or your ability to close a Sprint.

Velocity report is also based on the Story points that are specified for your stories (Epics should not have Story points estimates), so no impact there.

Let me know if this helps,
