Hi - I want to have different workflows for Epics v Tasks so I can manage a top level view v day to day tasks. I have edited the Epic workflow. But how do you get a view of the Epics in their workflow stages v Tasks in their workflow stages. I am using an Epic >Task>Child Hierarchy and want to have a good overview of different Epic status and also a detailed Stand Up view of progress on daily tasks within a Sprint.
Big question I know but can anyone help?
Nice question. Have you already edited the workflow scheme of your project? You can do this by following these steps:
For an overview of the status of epics and tasks on a daily basis, I recommend using a scrum board (because you mentioned, you like to work in sprints). You can add a board via Boards -> View all Boards -> Create Boards. The cool thing is, that you can configure and map the colums of the board with different status. You could use the column "In Progress" to show issues which have the status "In Progress" AND "In Development" for example.
Please note: You need Admin rights to perform these actions. If you aren't able to configure the workflow or Board by yourself, you may contact the admin of your system.
There are several other ways to display detailed information about the status of your issues, like dashboard gadgets and reports, like the Burndown-Chart for sprints. Let me know if you're interested into that, then I can provide further information. For now, I hope this information helps you with what you were searching for :)
Greetings Chris
Hi Chris - thanks for your answer. Yes I have created my two different workflows. And there's a default board set up which I can edit but can't see option to create a new one - presumably because I don't have the right Admin rights. So are you saying I can set up two different boards - one tailored to a top level Epic view and one for my day to day task progress?
Ta very much.
Lisa

Oh, I see, you are using Jira Cloud and a team managed project, right? I made the mistake not checking the tags, so sorry about that. :)
I don't think a second board is necessary. Have you tried grouping your Board by Epic?
This view shows the epics and the connected issues, including the status:

Yes and I like that view, it works well for seeing what stage my day to day tasks are at - quite simple workflow of To-Do, In Progress, Review, Close.
But my Epics are project level and have different higher level stages - would also like to be able to have a Board view of these? Hence can you create two Boards?

Unfortunately, there is no option to create multiple Boards in Team managed projects, as you can see in this post (answer from Bill): https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Team-managed-project-have-multiple-boards/qaq-p/1682741
I think for your use case, you should think about switching to a company managed project, there you have a lot of more options to configure. You can check how to migrate from team managed project to company managed project here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/migrate-between-team-managed-and-company-managed-projects/

Hello @Lisa Robinson
While it is not possible to create multiple native boards in a Team Managed project you can create a second board based on a saved filter that selects just your Epics. The board functionality will mimic the boards seen in Company Managed projects. You can add a link to that second board from your Team Managed project using the Add Shortcut option.
For information on creating that second board, see this article from @John Funk
