Customizing width of description area in the new issue view

Can I customize the width of the description fields section in the new issue view?

this is not currently possible. the only thing that can be done is associated w/ resizing the browser window but the ratio remains the same.

Sorry to hear that. The new issue type bring a lot of great improvements and new interface features, but this is making the experience of using the whole layout terrible. All of the space on the page are unused, but issue description (the most valuable part) are squished
