Copying (or syncing) custom field drop down from Epic to Story

bmacd May 27, 2022

Hi team, would really appreciate some help with this one.

We have a custom field "Work Type" which is a drop down with four options.

I want to set "Work Type" on an epic and have all the stories/bugs/tasks in the epic set the same value.

I've tried a couple of ways to do it but it doesn't work. I have a feeling it's because it's a drop down field but I'm not sure.

Method #1:

Transition issue
Unknown fields set during transition. Field may not be on transition screen. Fields ignored -
Work Type (customfield_12189)
Transitioned issues to
Backlog

Method #2:

Action details:
The following issues passed:
Project-734
Error editing issues
ATLAS-734 (Specify a valid 'id' or 'name' for Work Type (customfield_12189))

I used the link here to figure it out. This is a screenshot of the solution that works.

Hello @bmacd ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community and there is a really good breakdown on this in the following thread with some screenshots and examples:

The main thing to look at is the branch rules which act as a separator between the actions performed on the parent and child issues.

Regards,
Earl
