Any templates on creating a custom workflow for a purchase order process?

The workflow would need to route a PO through a chain of approvers before a purchase can be made. Is there a way to semi-automate the routing of PO's depending on the user making the request? For example, if user A created a purchase order, it gets routed to an approver (or group). If a different user (user B) creates a purchase order, it gets routed to a different approver (or group).
