New name, same powerful features: Roadmap is now Timeline!

Please note: This update concerns the basic roadmap view in Software projects, available on all Jira Software Cloud plans. The changes described in this article do not affect Advanced Roadmaps / Plans.

Hi Jira Community! 👋

I’m Josh, a Content Designer on Jira Software Cloud.

I'm writing today to let you know that from May 30th, the name of the Roadmap view in Software projects will change to Timeline. This update will roll out progressively.

This change will be reflected in your project sidebar and on the view itself, but does not impact functionality. The Timeline will continue to be your home for planning work, tracking progress, and mapping dependencies – all in a single view.

So, why are we making this change?

We know that many of you use multiple Jira tools as part of your day-to-day process, and we want to provide you with the best experience when working across our products.

This name change ensures greater consistency in how we refer to the timeline and roadmapping capabilities available across Jira and other Atlassian tools.

In particular, Jira Product Discovery has recently launched with product roadmapping capabilities that allow product managers to not only show what’s coming, but also explain the reasoning, context, and data behind decisions. Learn more about Jira Product Discovery.

By reviewing and updating the language we use across Jira, we hope that we can better communicate the relationship between our tools and how work flows between them.

If you have any questions or feedback on this update, let us know in the comments below.

Thanks all!

The link to Product Discovery is a pretty minimal one-screen thing with a signup button.  Is there an actual product listing somewhere about what this product is about?

So if we are jira standard users, we won't see a change?

Hey @John Dunkelberg

Just sharing that we have a webinar next week giving an intro to Jira Product Discovery also if you are keen to learn more. Even if you are unable to make it, sign up so we can send you a recording. Quick way to get up to speed on it :)

Hi @Chris Speier. Is your product using release tracks? If so, you may not see this update for a couple more months, as it will be bundled with a number of other updates and rolled out at same time.

I would appreciate the ability to keep the name Roadmap. As it's referred to as the roadmap view within my company and the  name change has caused some confusion. If we could be allowed to switch back that would be great.

Hi Josh Sherwood,
Wonder if our Roku team can have a demo of this Timeline product ? Thanks.

Kind regards,
