I've been tasked with an interesting chart to display on a dashboard, and am looking for assistance as I have hit a mental roadblock. Here's what management is looking for:
A chart that shows how many tickets are unassigned (cumulative) each week. This chart should show the increase/decrease of issues that are unassigned over time.
I have hit a mental road block as to how to accomplish this. We did install the JavaScript Charts for Jira Cloud by Atlassian Labs app, but my attempts to create something successful has failed. Any tips or ideas would be helpful.
Hello @Andrew Hardisty
I can offer something better.
The assignees of issues change over time. It can change even throughout the day. So seeing the number can be misleading. A better approach would be to see the time where the issues were unassigned.
Our team at OBSS built Time in Status for this. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud, and Data Center.
Time in Status mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status or each assignee.
Assignee Duration report in particular shows how much time was spent on each assignee or how much time eas spent "unassigned". This will help you with your report.
For all numeric report types, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. For example total in-progress time per customer or average resolution time per sprint, week, month, issuetype, request type, etc. The ability to group by parts of dates (year, month, week, day, hour) or sprints is particularly useful here since it allows you to compare different time periods or see the trend.
The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well. It supports both Company Managed and Team Managed projects for Jira Cloud.
Time in Status reports can be accessed through its own reporting page, dashboard gadgets, and issue view screen tabs. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts. You can also get file exports and REST API access.

Hello @Andrew Hardisty
Тhis is Polina from Narasyst. If you're open to using a marketplace partner app, we have a great metric called "Number of issues overtime in Assignee" that addresses your case when configured with "Unassigned".
Here's a quick overview of how it works:
Note! To capture all issues that match the "unassigned" criteria at the end of each week, select the "Snapshot in time" counting option. (circled in the 2nd screen).
You can take advantage of a 30-day trial period to explore "Performance Objectives: Charts for Jira". If you have any questions or need assistance configuring this or any other report, our support team is here to help.

I would suggest you look into EazyBI reporting. Feel free to contact them and they can provide you with some recommendations on how to create the report.
Here are some examples of what you can accomplish: https://eazybi.com/accounts/1000/cubes
Cheers.

Hi @Andrew Hardisty,
@Fabian Lim, thanks for suggesting eazyBI!
I just wanted to add a screenshot of how you could build such a report in eazyBI - you have the Time on rows and Issue history for Assignee (unassigned) showing over weeks; I also added a quick linear trend calculation:
As @Fabian Lim noted, you can go to the demo account and play around with dimensions to recreate the report with our demo data or install the trial and try it on your data.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with!
