custom field for new JIRA next-gen project does not show on form

I've created a new JIRA next-gen project and added a custom checkbox field to the bug issue type.  When creating a new issue if I do not check one of these checkboxes, the new custom field will not show up at all, even for the detailed view of this issue.  Is there a way to fix this?  Note that screen/issue schemas are not available for the new next-gen projects.

Hi John,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!
When we create a field on a next-gen project and we need it to be visible even when it's empty, we need to add it on the "Context field" area.
If we add it on the "Hide fields", if the field is empty it will show under the "Show more" when we view the ticket.
