Restricting addon access

shaw_chris July 19, 2016

If we have a JIRA Server instance, with a couple of paid addons, is it possible to add seats to our JIRA license without adding seats to each of the addons? Can we use permission schemes to restrict access to individual addons based upon group membership, so that we do not violate the license for those addons?

What Nic said, with a few exceptions, the answer is no.

If you have a 2,000-user JIRA license, you must have a 2,000-user license for all almost any add-ons that you have (even when they're managed directly through the vendor, not via Atlassian).

Some add-ons will work if you have a higher 'tier' on the add-on, such as if the add-on has a 500-user and a 5,000-user and you buy the 5,000-user add-on license for a 2,000-user JIRA, but I have yet to see an add-on that allows you to have a lower license tier than your total number of active JIRA users.

Only if the add-on supports its own licence scheme that can do this.

I'm only aware of a couple that do it, and they're not JIRA add-ons.
