On premise jira with no external connection

jay januar July 24, 2019

Hi All,

is there any downside if i host  JIRA on a server that has no internet connection? Due to security reasons my Infra team does not allow internet  connection on their server. Thanks.

Nothing that I would consider anything more than "very mildly inconvenient"

  • Licence renewals will take a couple of extra clicks if starting from Jira
  • Install of apps will take many more clicks
  • The only major one: you won't get told about available updates to apps or applications, you'll need to keep an eye on them on via checking manually on a client machine that can see the internet

Security often trumps that.  If you do have a non-internet Atlassian system, it will work fine, but the admins do need to keep on top of releases by checking regularly.  (The most secure place I know has internet connected servers dedicated to checking for updates and release notes, so they can tell humans when something behind the firewall might need updates)
