Epic Link is missing from defect view

With new Jira view creating a new issue the option to assign to Epic Link is missing and can't be added.  Because of this we're unable to create new defects because Epic Link is a required field and information needed.

We ran into this also and i raised a bug with atlassian about it.  Workaround is to switch to the old layout when creating.
