Confluence dynamic/instant search results disappear when a minus sign is typed

When using the confluence search is there a reason the dynamic/instant search results disappear when a minus sign is typed?

Also searching for

something

returns different results than searching for

something -

In fact something followed by - (minus sign) returns no results.

Is this an intended behaviour?
