With Automation for JIRA it is possible to define a list of users that can then be used to assign an issue to. You can populate this list via group selection.

You can assign the user based on a number of algorithms:

  • Load balanced - assign it to the user with the lowest number of issues assigned to them
  • Round-robin - sequentially assign  issue to a list of users
  • Random - if you are feeling lucky

I have written more about assigning issues in - https://blog.codebarrel.io/smart-assign-jira-issues-load-balancing-round-robin-and-more-530f3a48bb25#.euyz7dsyg

Hey Nick, does the smart assign work for regular Jira also or just Service Desk?

Oh damn I see automation is just for Jira Cloud...

There is a plugin called "Round Robin Assignment for JIRA & JSD" having different round robin strategies. This plugin is able to configure per issue type round robin strategy

Hi,

we've released a plugin to manage assignee more easily:

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222630/smart-assignment-for-jira

With smart assignment for jira, you can easily assign the issue based on the least issue count or remaining estimate. You can also select custom field value to decide the assignee. You can give it a try.

This guys charge for EVERYTHING!!!! what's the deal of having a ticketing tool if you have to pay even more for what you actually need it for.

Hey Sammaël,

Actually this functionality is available for free in the Lite version of our add-on.

The Server version is being released very soon and Cloud version is already available.

There is a 300 rules per month limit in the Cloud offering as we host this and incur costs.

Hope you can try it out.

Cheers,

Nick
