I have a user asking why there's a green check mark for their sub-task that has never been resolved.
Looking at the forum here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/JIRA-shows-the-green-tick-next-to-sub-task-when-its-state-is-IN/qaq-p/1123298 the green check seems to stick around if the ticket was changed from a resolved state to another in-progress type state. However, the user never used the resolved state.
The history of status has gone from To Do to In Progress to Review/Approval to To Do to Blocked/On Hold.
Can anyone provide some insight on why the sub task might incorrectly showing a green check, with a non-resolved resolution?
Thank you
it is currently set as 'unresolved', along with the other four issues in the sub-tasks

hmmm.... and the status shows blue which means it's the In Progress status category...

Just to be 100% sure, is the resolution field actually empty or is there an incorrect resolution called 'unresolved'?
Might be worth checking the post-actions of the workflow transitions that lead to this status as well.

Good morning, just getting back to this. A team mate sent this screenshot of what my understanding is you're asking. I'm not able to click in the field or edit it to see if I can do anything about the 'Unresolved' resolution. The other tickets (that don't have the green check) in the sub-tasks have the same resolution of 'Unresolved' that acts the same as the 'misbehaving' ticket.

Great catch, @Els Bassant ! @James Cheney ~ based on your screenshot, it looks like an actual value of "Unresolved" is being set. Can you edit that post-function and check? My workflow post-function shows as below:

@Laurie Sciutti @Els Bassant That was it! We changed that rule to clearing the field instead, then cycled the ticket through the statuses and it's properly showing in progress. Thank you!

Welcome to the Atlassian community!
This has happened to me and was due to the "Status Category". If you go to your Statuses in Settings you should see the the Category to the right of the status like this:
For me, when I edited the Status and changed the Category for my On Hold status from "Done" to "To Do" it resolved this.

That was helpful to take a look at, thank you
I looked at all the statuses the ticket had been in, and none of them were in the 'done' category. It appears the ticket is using a different status than purely 'On Hold' - although I did see that in there, with the 'Done' category.
The 'Blocked/On Hold' status it's currently in is associated with the 'In Progress' category.

Yeah @Laurie Sciutti had a good observation below that the status itself appears blue because it is In Progress category. What if you change another subtask to Done, does it appear the same way?

I created a test ticket, and ran through several status changes, from 'In Progress' to 'Blocked/On Hold' to 'Review/Approval' to 'Done' and refreshed the page that showed the sub-tasks each time. The only status a green check came for was the 'Done' status. 'Blocked/On Hold' stayed with the blue tag and no check appeared
