Without using a plugin or extension is there a way to count transitions through Jira reporting as we are looking at ways to improve our reporting on reoccurring incidents and make our customer journey a lot better.

There is no way to do that with reporting. You could do that by using API, but only to get names, ids and the overall number of transitions. However, I would recommend this free app Smart Config Docs, which gives you a quite clear overview of a project (validators, transitions, conditions etc). This could suit your needs.

Thanks but i went with some automation to count the number of transitions - {{#increment}}.
Does anyone know where i can find a list of smart values like the {{#increment}} one as i would like to learn what else we can do with automation (if possible a way to backdate the outstanding tickets as my rule will only cover newly added tickets.)
