Greetings, community!

I was temporarily given site-admin permissions for our Jira cloud instance to backup up the primary person.  For the first time in several months, I tried to delete a project-scope automation rule and nothing happens.  I created the rule, and I tried the delete with the ...remove context menu from the rules list.  More data:

  • No error and no audit log entry generated for the attempted delete
  • I have added/deleted rules many times before I had site-admin permissions
  • I am able to create, edit, and run rules
  • I am able to copy and export rules
  • I tried the delete (...remove) from both the project and global administration pages
  • I assigned another person to project admin, and they were able to delete my rule
  • I tried creating and deleting a rule from a team-managed project: create works and delete does not, so I hypothesize that project type seems unrelated

Is there a specific permission related to this function: automation rule delete?

Anyone ever see this before?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Greetings, community!

The response from Atlassian support is this problem is caused by an update to Chrome which leads to blocking some alert messages/pop-ups.  However this does not explain why it impacts some, and not all users, with the exact same version of Chrome, OS, etc.

The symptom appears to have gone away for me with no changes to Chrome install, so perhaps there has been a Jira update released.

Here is there public backlog item on the issue, which could also impact discarding unsaved rules, and it is marked as "In Progress": https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-77100

And here are the suggested work-arounds:

Workaround

  1. Use Firefox. This bug only affects the latest version of Chrome.
  2. Use an older version of Chrome. This bug only affects the latest version of Chrome.
  3. For problems 2, 3, and 4 refreshing the page will also do the trick.

Hmmm, I am certainly able to remove a rule for a project on my instance. Is this a rule that you created or someone else?

Hi, @Jack Brickey

Yes, I created the rule.  Originally I copied it from another rule (which I also created).  And I tried to create some test rules just to delete them, and those also are stuck with no remove for me.

Something simply isn’t adding up. This appears to be too simple of an issue. I have to wonder if you haven’t uncovered some kind of a bug. I’m going to investigate a bit more.

What does the global configuration look like on your side?

Looks the same for me. Hmmm...  Perhaps time for me to just create the ticket.

Well I’m certainly perplexed. Hard to imagine it’s a bug but still….

I expect it is some edge case of permissions in our instance, so I will post back here after I learn more.  Thanks for checking on it!

I'd love to hear if you find a solution. I am having the same problems. I've only noticed it starting this morning.

Interesting for sure that seems to provide some credence to this being a bug that likely has just been introduced into some instances.

Hey @Bill Sheboy try using Firefox and not Chrome. It works for me.

I have just recently encountered this issue as well in Chrome, starting a few days ago.  Using Firefox instead worked for me, though hopefully they fix it soon so we don't have to hop between browsers.

Seems like we have found the smoking gun. Either a Chrome update or a Jira update.

Edge (Chromium) also cannot delete rules for me.  I am doing more testing with other site admins as I have not heard back from the support team yet.

Thanks for the additional help troubleshooting, Community!
