unable to access config.bat

In the command prompt after going to the bin in JIRA home directory when I try to access config.bat,the error message shows  "wrong JVM version, need atleast 1.8 to run". but I have already installed the latest jdk version and it still isn't working.  my questions

  1. Do yo think I maybe need to re-install it ?
  2. If yes , then will it cause any error while re-installing, as I am currently using the trial version?
