save edit filter - not happing

after editing a filter "save" button does NOT appear. 

yes, I press the magnifying glass, 

yes, I have tried to use the SQL

all i get is "save as" 

please assist this is so basic...

I have a filter for my "Current Projects" and of course when I get reassigned I want to change the project codes it returns.  The button initially reads "Save As".  When I changed the project code in the JQL line I expected the button to change to "Save" because I had edited the filter - but it didn't.

Eventually I happened to actually run the new JQL by clicking the magnifying glass icon.  THEN the system decided I had edited the filter, and changed the button.
