reorder kanban board subasks at Board view

Hello,

I’m experiencing an issue with reordering subtasks on a Jira Kanban Board (Cloud version). In the Board view, drag‑and‑drop reordering does not work, the mouse cursor displays a red prohibition symbol and the subtasks do not move.

When I open the parent task, the subtasks are displayed in the correct order. I also tried changing the sorting to ascending order, and while this updates correctly within the parent task, but the order is still not reflected on the main board.

I’ve attached screenshots of both the board view and the parent task view for reference.

Hi @Mohamed Ramadan and welcome,

Could you check your board filter and see if it includes 'ORDER BY' either 'Issue key' or 'Rank'

• Issue key is the number of the issue (EP-19283, EP-19284) 
• Rank is an internal value in Jira that represents the priority in the backlog or active sprint.

You also need the permission 'Schedule issues" to be able to change the rank. Check with your project admn that you have the approprate permission. Go to Space settings (click on the three dots to the right of the space name) and go to Permissions. Use the button Permission helper in the upper right corner and add your user, a random work item in the space and the permission 'Schedule issues' to verify if you have the associated permission or if you need to be added to a project role or group.

I don't think Order By is part of my filter and I am not sure how to add it, as I searched for it but couldn't find it. Is there a way to do it?

Noting that this is a team manager project, not a company managed one.

Sorry for assuming you are in a Company managed project, my response was based on that.

I dont't think the 'ORDER BY Rank' is related to your problem since that is used in Company managed projects

In Team managed projects your permissions is connected to the role you have in the space. In the official documentation found here the permission 'Edit any due date' is by default assigned to the role 'Member' in Team managed spaces and that permission is similar to 'Shedule issues' that is needed to modify the rank (order in the board) in Company managed projects.
