"only my Issues" displayed as flat list not objects

Stephen.Hulbert November 8, 2022

the default view of issues seems to be columns of objects: to do, in progress, done.

these can be dragged and dropped between columns.

selecting my user button or "only my issues" to filter the list, though, switches to a flat list.

which makes it less than useful.

is there a way to make filtering the list not switch its format?

s.

Hi @Stephen.Hulbert , welcome to the community.

Can you share a screenshot of what you see when you click on only my issues? If I am on a scrum for kanban board and select that quit filter, then I continue to see the board and only the cards  Assigned to me. I do not see a "flat list".

Would you mind checking another browser? Also what do you see if you simply click on your avatar? Finally, can you ask another member on the board to click on "only my issues" and observe?

@Stephen.Hulbert ,

pit would be best to use the "reply" rather than "Answer" button to keep the convo in the appropriate thread.

It appears to me that things are working fine if you click on the avatar, is that correct? The issue appears to be when you select only my issues only issues is that correct?

Stephen.Hulbert November 8, 2022

sorry i'm new to this., will do.

Stephen.Hulbert November 8, 2022

and if by "avatar" you mean the circle with my initial in, no, it works the same as "only my issues"

yes the circles with initials. You can use these avatars to select the assignee, which will filter the entire board based on your selection(s). So, if you were to select only your avatar, then it would be the same as only my issues. It might be a good idea to inspect the JQL query associated with only my issues. This can be done under board settings and then quick filters.

In reviewing the images The following is the only one that appears odd to me. All others demonstrate what I would expect to see.

Please find your avatar and click it but be sure to deselect all other avatars and ensure "only my issues" is deselected as well.

of all the images above, the latest one show the problem exactly.

there's an issue from "A", which is displayed neatly in its own panel.

and above that there's mine which is just a string of text with a link on one end.

that suggests it's a setting on my account, but where?

are there two kinds of jira object?

oh wait a sec. can you click on the ellipses in upper right and click on "expand all swimlanes"?

Stephen.Hulbert November 8, 2022 edited

expands everyone else but me.

or rather, it makes the filtering behave weirdly.

shows just mine, then mixes up users.

i'm confused.

in short, it changes the filtering but not the display of the items.

Stephen.Hulbert November 8, 2022

and so, on reflection, my analysis was wrong. there are two kinds of issue. one is displayed as a row of text and one as a panel. i happen to have only the first sort. my colleagues appear to have a mixture of both.  how can i display all issues as panels?

@Stephen.Hulbert , sorry I do not understand this statement "there are two kinds of issue. one is displayed as a row of text and one as a panel.". Can you please elaborate on what you mean by this? Furthermore, could you please share the filter used for this board as well as how your Swimlanes are configured?

Stephen.Hulbert November 9, 2022 edited

1. what's a swimlane and where is it configured? i'm only a user, i don't have the permissions to change settings.

2. the issues on the jira board are displayed in two different ways.

a. the first is as a simple text string with a link on the left. e.g.

Screenshot 2022-11-09 at 09.39.26.png

these are always displayed on the left and do not move position into their correct column.

b. the second is displayed as a draggable object, like this:

Screenshot 2022-11-09 at 09.42.36.png

these are displayed in the correct column.

each kind seems always displayed consistently.

i was confused because i only have the first kind.

my colleagues have a mixture of both.

3. my question becomes, then, how do i display all issues in the second way?

thanks,

s.

Hi @Stephen.Hulbert , ultimately I would refer you to your administrator or the Board owner to assist in understanding the board and addressing any display changes you want.

Swimlanes are the horizontal groupings of issues on the board. In the image of your board below the blue illustrates two swimlanes (A, B). The yellow highlight illustrates that your swimlanes are configured by Stories. So each swimlane is a story and the Cards (you refer to them as objects) within the swimlane are the subtasks.

With that in mind, in the below image no cards are shown. If you click on the "collapse/expand" arrow (encircled in red) and no cards are shown then I would surmise that the Story has no subtasks. In fact you will note that the arrows in the below image are pointing down illustrating they are expanded. Therefore this confirms you do not have subtasks in your stories.

In Summary, if your stories will not have subtasks and you want the stories to show as cards then the Board configuration needs to be altered to not have swimlanes by Stories. In my final image below you will see an example of what swimlane configuration looks like and the options available. Note, this can only be done by the board owner/ admin.

hopefully my explanation makes sense. If not let me know but most importantly you should chat with your admin.

Stephen.Hulbert November 9, 2022

thank you for this thorough explanation.

i need to discuss swimlanes with the owner of the board.

thanks again,

you've been very helpful.

regards,
