"Panels" button bar no longer appears when creating/editing comments

Hi Folks,

I have a question about the coloured panels that can be added to the comments section of a Jira task.

Until recently, whenever I was creating or editing a comment in a Jira task, a small button bar would appear at the bottom of the text box with the options Note, Info, Success, Warning and Error, as shown in the screenshot below:

However, in the last couple of days this button bar has disappeared, and now the only way I can add a coloured panel is to search through the Insert Elements menu.

Does anyone know why the Panels button bar no longer appears?  Is there some way I can turn this feature back on again?

Thanks in advance,

Brendan.

Hi Folks,

Reply from Atlassian tech support is as follows:

Hi Brendan,

Thank you for confirming. The buttons you have showing there usually appear once you add a panel element of any kind to a comment or rich text field. So once you add a panel, you will still see those buttons as below -

I haven't found any information to suggest this behaviour was changed recently. The quickest way to add panels would be to use "/panel" and hit enter and then use the buttons to select the relevant panel type.

I did check to see if these appeared by default anywhere within Jira when the text editor was opened, but it doesn't look like it.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you here and I will review as needed.

Unfortunately this doesn't explain why the Panels button bar ALWAYS used to appear whenever I edited a comment box, regardless of whether or not the comment already contained a panel element.

However, it sounds like this was never the expected behaviour for Jira anyway, and the "problem" I have been describing is actually not a problem at all, but rather the correct behaviour for the Jira text editor.

This issue can now be closed.

I use that feature all the time in CONFLUENCE but never knew it was available on issue comments.  I will start using it now that I see it.

That said I notice I can't use panels in this reply because the editors between issues and confluence are different.

Confluence

my last bit of research, there is a recently opened bug about the editor though I don't think it is related.  I mention this because you can search Atlassian Issues for the Component  = "Rich Text Editor" to see any work being done.

Good luck

Thanks David.  I sometimes find these problems resolve themselves after a couple days.  Hopefully that will be the case in this instance!

Hi Brendan,

I suspect only Atlassian will be able to answer that. I suggest you open a support ticket with them.

Please post back here with their answer/solution. Good luck!
