Hi dear community,
I am using an instance of Jira team managed instant. In my In progress status I have following buckets:
but the problem is that they are sorted based on alphabetical order and not based on the above mentioned numberings. This issue creates a lot of confusion for the developers when they want to choose the right status. It is important to note that I want developers to be able to jump some of these status as for some issues and tickets we do not need to go through all the status steps one by one. I would really appreciate your help
thanks!
Hey Ardalan get your frustration. Jira Team-Managed projects can be limiting when it comes to workflow customization.
Unfortunately, in Team-Managed projects, statuses in the dropdown do get sorted alphabetically and there’s currently no built-in way to reorder them manually like in Company-Managed projects.
Here are a few workaround ideas that might help:
Prefix with numbers It’s not ideal visually, but renaming your statuses like this:
1. Business Analysis
2. Solution Analysis & Modelling
3. App Dev.
etc.
...will force Jira to display them in your intended order.
Skip logic is still supported – Even with numbered statuses, devs can still skip steps (e.g. go from 2. Solution Analysis
straight to 5. Change Adoption
) as long as your workflow allows all-to-all transitions. Just be sure to configure your workflow transitions flexibly.
Consider converting to Company-Managed –If you need full control over status order, workflows, and roles, that could be worth considering longer term.
