new category for the status

Is it possible to create a new category for the status other than open, in progress, done? I would also like to choose a different color for her.

No, these cannot be changed, the list is hard-coded.

There's a good reason for this - there are no other useful status categories.  There are no status you can point at and say they don't fall into to-do, done or in-progress.
