need to reset system admin password

Jim Kidd January 17, 2022

Hi:

I installed jira core on a server along with mysql.  Its currently working just fine.  However, I neglected to record the Jira system admin password for later use.  I tried setting the set JVM_SUPPORT_RECOMMENDED_ARGS=-Datlassian.recovery.password= option in the setenv.bat and setenv32.bat files.  When I attempted to login with the recovery_admin account, it wouldn't take my password I used in the startup options.  Short of reinstalling Jira again, what are my options.

Thanks

Jim

Hey @Jim Kidd ,

you can always connect to the DB and overwrite the local admin password with a new one.

the procedure on how to do it is explained here

My username has admin access I have no problems logging in and performing administrative tasks.  I need to reset the username 'admin' password.  I followed the instructions above, but it didn't lead me to anything that appeared I could change the password for 'admin'.

As long as the 'admin' user is in your local (jira) user directory, which it 99.9% is, then you can just "Administer" the user and change it's password directly in Jira UI without needing SQL:

Radek:

Thanks for the advice.  Upon reviewing my user list I realized I had set the admin user account with my own username.  I edited the 'admin' account by setting it's username correctly.  Everything makes more sense now.  My initial confusion came from the fact that I also administer another Jira install which uses as it's user directory, active directory.  We have that one configured such that the 'admin' account is configured in the local Jira user directory and all other users accounts are provided by groups in active directory.  At least I've learned something today.

Thanks for you patience

Jim
