morning scrum board, selection of tasks across multiple projects

Christian Wilson February 8, 2022

Im seeing if there is a way to structure my morning scrum board in the way that i want.

Some background:

-managing multiple projects and have a morning scrum call with the team to go over the hot tasks for the day across the various projects

-I don't like how i can't drag a single child task into a sprint without pulling the entire parent task in, can i change this from happening? I only want the hot daily items, not the entire parent task listed out.

-Id like to pick and choose what tasks/subtasks get put into the board every morning.  when using a kanban style it seems like it grabs all the task that are in progress and autoupdates them in the column, leading to alot of information that not relevant to the daily items.

Right now im using a project page in the company wiki (atlassian wiki) and manually typing in the tasks, occasionally linking the jira tickets to them.

Maybe there is a better method of constructing my ideal morning hit list in the wiki instead of Jira?

In a perfect world i could pick and choose the tasks across projects and manually add them to the morning hit list.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, @Christian Wilson. Jira is oriented around the idea that each project is distinct and is optimized around this idea. That’s the bad news.

The good news is you and many other people are looking to do something more like what you describe — use Jira as cross-project/cross-team management tool. And it can be done.

To do that, you’ll need the help of some additional tooling on top of Jira. The most popular solutions are; Advanced Roadmaps from Atlassian; my company‘s product, Structure; and BigPicture.

each of these can help you create a board that looks across projects. Technically, they’re not the same as Jira Scrum boards or Kanban — but they can be used for the purposes you described.

And these are not the only solutions available to you. The right one (for you) is something only you can determine.

I hope this helps.

P.S. i’ll come back tomorrow and add links to all of the products I mentioned plus a suggested Atlassian marketplace search that may help you. Unfortunately, I’m out of time right now.

Thanks for the reply and info Dave, ill start looking into the other solutions to see if any of them would be the ideal solution
